St. Katharina in Mitterdorf

Mitterdorf ( Italian : Villa di Mezzo) is the largest district of the municipality of Kaltern in the South Tyrolean Überetsch . It is located at 477  m slm on the slope just above the community center of Kaltern Dorf . Until the 13th century the district was still called Broilum , which could be traced back to Longobard origins. This later became the name Brühl.

In the historical center of the village there are several residences , two of which stand out: Campan (or Kampan), built by Conzius von Campan in Gothic style around 1268 and today owned by the Counts of Enzenberg , as well as the Sallegg residence, owned by the lords in the 16th century Built by All and owned by the Counts of Kuenburg since 1851 . Both are still inhabited today and can therefore only be viewed from the outside.

The church in Mitterdorf is dedicated to St. Catherine and was built between 1517 and 1520. The church in Gothic style contains valuable wall paintings from the Bozen school (1414) and a very beautiful side altar with late Gothic figures of saints.
