Moacyr Ribeiro Briggs

Moacyr Ribeiro Briggs (born July 10, 1900 in Niterói , † April 9, 1968 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Moacyr Ribeiro Briggs was the son of Francisca Eduarda Ribeiro and Arthur Eduardo Raoux Briggs and married Zenilda Novaes. He studied at the Universidade Federal Fluminense and was a Bachelor of Laws from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro . In 1918 he joined the Itamaraty's foreign service. From 1938 to 1941 he was deputy head of the administration department in Itamaraty. From 1942 he headed the Divisão de Organização e Coordenação of the Departamento Administrativo do Serviço Público (DASP), the public relations work of the President. On August 18, 1942, a report by Ribeiro Briggs on a commission of inquiry (Ernani Reis and Vasco Leitão da Cunha) on the practice of issuing visas was handed over to Getúlio Vargas by Luís Martins de Souza Dantas . On August 21, 1942, Vargas declared war on the Axis powers.

Moacyr Ribeiro Briggs later headed the DASP :

From September 17, 1952 to August 1, 1953 he was ambassador to Karachi . From November 18, 1953 to September 24, 1955 he was ambassador to Asunción . From March 2, 1959 to 1960, he was ambassador to the Holy See . Until his death he was the head of the Instituto de Organização Racional do Trabalho in the state of Guanabara and was replaced in this position by Engo Alím Pedro, managing director of the Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
