The complex is located on the western coastline of Mobile Bay and is managed by the Mobile Airport Authority .

The airport has a tower and two runways of 2,926 m and 2,377 m in length, which have instrument landing systems. In addition to the airport grounds, the complex houses several aviation manufacturers such as B. Airbus and offers direct connections to rail, road and sea.

use

FedEx , US Airways and United Airlines planes are repaired at the Brookley Complex . Federal Express also uses the complex for three daily transportation flights to Memphis.

In addition, a freight terminal was converted into a passenger terminal and put into operation on May 1, 2019. Frontier Airlines has been operating passenger flights ever since .

expansion

EADS North America selected the airport site for a development office with 250 employees. EADS and Northrop Grumman published plans at the beginning of 2008, according to which the KC-30 (or KC-45A) tanker , which is largely based on the Airbus A330 MRTT, is to be assembled for the United States Air Force on the site of over 1000 employees. However, Boeing ultimately received the order for the US tanker fleet .

On July 2, 2012, Airbus announced that it would build an assembly line for the Airbus A320 family at the Mobile site . Construction started in the summer of 2013 and production started in 2015. The first aircraft, an A321ceo for Jetblue Airways , had its rollout on February 24, 2016; the first flight was completed on March 21. The aircraft was delivered on April 25, 2016. By 2018, the capacity of the plant is to be increased to 40 to 50 aircraft per year. Airbus plans to invest a total of around 600 million US dollars and will receive financial and logistical support worth 158 million US dollars from the state of Alabama. On June 11, 2018, the first mobile-assembled aircraft of the Airbus A320neo family, an Airbus A321neo , was handed over to Hawaiian Airlines .

After taking over the Bombardier CSeries and renaming it to Airbus A220, Airbus began building a final assembly line for the Airbus A220 on January 16, 2019. Construction of the first aircraft, an Airbus A220-300 destined for Delta Air Lines , began on August 5, 2019. This aircraft was damaged on September 13, 2019 by foam from the hangar's fire extinguishing system.
