Mohamed Hamzah Charara

Mohamed Hamzah Charara ( Arabic محمد بن حمزة شرارة, DMG Muḥammad b. Ḥamza Šarāra ; * September 8, 1924 in Medina ; † April 19, 2012 in the province of Mecca ) was a Saudi diplomat .

He was married to Anna Rusisca; they had a son together.

Education

He received a bachelor's degree in political science from La Sapienza University and received his doctorate in law from Alexandria University in 1949 .

Career

In 1949 he joined the foreign service and was employed in the Foreign Ministry, which was then in Jeddah , until 1951 . From 1951 to 1954 he was attache and secretary of the Saudi Arabian legation in Rome. From March 25, 1958 he was Chargé d'affaires in Tokyo, where he became ambassador in 1961. From 1961 to 1965 he headed the West Department in the Foreign Ministry, in this role he was appointed Ministre plénipotentiaire in 1963 and ambassador in 1964. In 1955, 1957 and 1961 he was a member of the Saudi delegation to the sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations .

In 1961 he was a member of the Saudi delegation to the Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade . In 1962 he was a member of the Saudi delegation to the Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Cairo. From 1966 to 1972 he was Permanent Representative of the Saudi Government to the United Nations Office in Geneva . From June 13, 1973 to 1981 he was ambassador to Brussels and accredited to the EU Commission and Luxembourg . From 1981 to 1984 he was ambassador to Mexico City .
