Moianacht (May Night ) is a short film from the year 2000 , which describes the experiences of two brothers during Walpurgis Night in a Swabian village. There it is the custom that a boy puts a decorated birch tree as a may tree in the garden or in front of the door for the girl he admires , but for an unloved one a bare tree hung with cans.

action

Micha is rehearsing with his band Hangman in a barn because they will be performing at a dance in the May party in their town that same evening . He is raised by his band members because he denies being in love with Ina. His little brother Benny shows up and wants to know what you need for a rifle tree. He moves to the village with his friends and they “decorate” the butcher's shop window with shaving cream. While setting up the instruments on the dance hall stage, Ina appears with her friend, to whom she has recently expressed sympathy for Micha. Micha talks to her - somewhat hesitantly due to his shyness - and wants to tell her about his new piece written especially for her, but then the well-known womanizer Richie intercepts and kidnaps Ina to the bar.

While “planting” the can tree for his schoolmate Julia, Benny is surprised by her mother; however, she believes Benny is an admirer and invites him to Julia's house. While the band is performing, Micha sees from the stage that Richie is still courting Ina. After the announcement for his new piece, which briefly attracts Ina's attention, he has to watch as she disappears hand in hand with Richie from the hall during the song. He rushes after her and confronts Richie, but shortly before they get violent, he is pulled away by his bandmate Tommy, who reproaches him for why he missed the concert. They fall apart and Micha gets full. Benny, who has finally escaped from Julia and her mother, decorates the butcher's Hondertnainzger with the unused cans , but is caught by him.

When Micha wants to refresh himself in the toilet of the event hall, he hears suspicious noises from a toilet cubicle and looks over the partition: it is actually Richie, who is not in contact with Ina, but with Susi. After a short brawl, Richie understands and tells Micha to go, Ina would just wait for him. He finds her on the dance floor but is so drunk that he vomits. Ina leaves in disgust and Tommy takes care of Micha, who realizes that he has "screwed up" and asks him for forgiveness and help. At dawn, the band's pals drive with tractor and trailer through the village street, which is delivered with equipment during the free night and decorated with washing lines, to Ina's house, where they set up a large may tree and Micha sings the new song in front of the balcony, on which a smiling soon Ina steps.

criticism

“The film ... deals with the provincial world in a relaxed and fun way. Youth culture with a difference. The performance of the actors was positively received in the evaluation committee, the dramaturgical ideas were seen as differently successful and the dominance of the musical level was critically noted. But also in the Moianacht it is a bit rude. "( Film evaluation agency , predicate: valuable )
