NTS (Not the Same) was a German rock band from Karlsruhe .

Band history

The band was founded in 1993 on the occasion of their graduation party and initially dedicated themselves to fun punk rock . NTS is characterized by multilingual texts, so you can find German, English and French songs under their titles.

About various youth competitions, u. a. “BaWü rocks” in 1998, NTS was also able to celebrate national successes. A year earlier they had already been awarded the title “Newcomer of the Month” by VIVA for their self-produced album 100 Hours a Day . Five days after their appearance on the program “VIVA interaktiv”, a “Live Special” was filmed about the band due to the good response from the audience. It joined the joining as a founding member of the project Bandpool of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg , from which u. a. The Happy and Gunslinger emerged .

The unofficial debut album 100 Hours a Day , which was self-distributed to fans in 1997, was followed by the recording of the official debut album Hey Lovely in Italy in 2000 . Responsible production team were Rea Garvey and Steve Lyon , who previously worked for The Cure , Depeche Mode , Paradise Lost and Reamonn , but also German newcomers such as Re! Nvented . The critical reactions were mixed. Some of the record critics spoke of the “first tentative steps of a school band”, while other critics praised the “round sound that goes quickly in the ear” and “hope that we will hear more from this quartet”.

Ich und Du , the band's biggest hit so far, entered the German single charts on August 13th, 2001 , stayed there for nine weeks until October 8th, 2001, and reached the highest chart position on August 27th, 2001 with 55th place . In addition, the single, whose music video was shot in Malibu , reached number 31 on the WOM sales charts and number 3 on the MTV web charts.

In 2001 and 2002 NTS was on an extensive promotional tour and reached a wide audience through various German television and radio stations. An Echo nomination in 2002 and winning the Radio Rainbow Award for best national newcomer in 2003 round off the band's extensive activities. Then the band members took a year off to produce the album Syndrom on their own in 2004 and without any major promotion .

With more than 500 shows, NTS gained a lot of stage experience, including a. at music festivals such as Rock am Ring , Rock im Park , the Bizarre Festival or the Arena of Sound of SWR3 . They also played as the opening act for A-ha , the sons of Mannheims , The (International) Noise Conspiracy , Guano Apes , Donots , Beatsteaks , New Model Army and many more. They also went on tour with Reamonn, Bad Religion , American Hi-Fi and Die Happy . Last but not least, they also showed their political colors as a participant in the Laut gegen Rechts tour in 2002 alongside Such a Surge , the sports fans Stiller , the Guano Apes, Emil Bulls and 4Lyn .

After restructuring in 2002, NTS lost the support of their label and disbanded the band. Christian Gingerich began studying at the Popakademie Mannheim in 2004 and from 2008 was a solo artist with a band under the name Cris Cosmo. The other band members turned to civil professions. Uli Jäger later died of cancer.
