occupation

The short film Mondmann is a German children's film from 2007. The literary film adaptation is based on the picture book of the same name by Tomi Ungerer (first published in 1966 by Diogenes Verlag ).

Director Fritz Böhm tells the story of the lonely moon man, played by Michael Tregor . Piet Klocke and Ralf Richter also play in other roles . With a lot of imagination and poetic images, the film takes you into a child's imagination.

action

To walk on earth and to be among people - the moon man has been dreaming of this since he can remember. From his lonely apartment in heaven, the blue ball seems within reach. And yet it lies in an unreachable distance. One night he gets a surprising chance: With the help of a comet flying past, he manages to leave his home and travel to earth. When he arrives at the place of his dreams, however, everything turns out very differently than he had imagined. The people, above all a career-obsessed general, panic after the comet strike. Because the pale creature that rises from the crater there is immediately mistaken for a dangerous intruder. A large-scale manhunt takes its course. It is the eight-year-old "scientist" Lucia who is the only one who notices what the intruder is really about. In the misty forest she finds the frightened little man and takes him to the castle of her grandfather, Professor Bunsen Van der Dunkel. However, it doesn't take long for the general to find out where the "intruder" is hiding. Lucia now uses all her imagination and forges a clever escape plan for the moon man: a rusty moon rocket rests in the tower of the castle, which will eventually bring him home.

background

For Fritz Böhm and his producers Sven Nuri and Christoph Strunck, Mondmann was at the end of their studies at the University of Television and Film in Munich and was also their joint graduation film. For the elaborate visual effects , there was a cooperation between the HFF Munich, the Georg-Simon-Ohm University Nuremberg and the company ARRI for the first time . The Munich-based TV broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk participated as co-producers . Mondmann celebrated its premiere in Munich on March 3, 2007, just in time for the total lunar eclipse . The international premiere took place in April 2007 at the Toronto International Film Festival in the children's film section Sprockets .

Film music

The symphonic film music for the moon man helped the young film composer Martina Eisenreich to move into the concert halls and has now also appeared on CD. The very different characters of the people involved inspired them to create a varied and colorful tone poem, which the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg has added to its concert repertoire.

Reviews

“The lonely moon man undertakes an odyssey down to earth because it is his greatest longing to walk among people. But because of the comet he chooses as his means of movement, he is considered a dangerous intruder. Only the seven-year-old scientist Lucia can save him - and does it courageously.

Technically extremely demanding, lovingly equipped and skilfully staged, this is one of those magical films in which the design is entirely at the service of the story. Visual effects and fantastic figures inspire with their poetry. The moon man is particularly impressive. Then when he sheds a tear, it is touching.

Has there been a more beautiful moon since Georges Méliès (1861–1938)? The sparkling film, directed by Fritz Böhm and based on a children's book by Tomi Ungerer, looks like an homage and answer to the Méliès film 'Le voyage dans la lune' from 1902. But the most beautiful thing that can be said about this film is that he can enchant children. "
