Monika Kircher , also Monika Kircher-Kohl , (born July 8, 1957 in Spittal an der Drau ) is an Austrian manager and politician ( SPÖ ). From 1991 to 2001 she was Vice Mayor of the City of Villach and from 2007 to 2014 CEO of Infineon Technologies Austria AG .

Life

Monika Kircher studied commercial science from 1975 to 1980 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . She then went to Mexico for a year and a half for her doctoral thesis, where she worked in the cultural institute of the Austrian embassy, ​​but rejected the dissertation. From 1981 to 1988 she was managing director of the Carinthian regional office of the Austrian Information Service for Development Policy (ÖIE), from 1988 to 1991 she worked as a freelance consultant and lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt .

From 1991 to 2001 she was the deputy mayor of the city of Villach, responsible for finance and economy, human resources, culture, schools, youth and women.

From April 2001, she was a member of the board of Infineon Technologies Austria AG, responsible for finance, research and personnel. In 2006 she took over the management of the Infineon Villach location, and from June 2007 she was the company's CEO. At the end of March 2014, Kircher resigned from the Executive Board, followed by Sabine Herlitschka as CEO.

In 2011 she supported the initiative for an educational referendum by Hannes Androsch . In the media she was named as a possible SPÖ science minister in 2014. In 2016 she was named as a possible SPÖ education minister.

Kircher deleted the middle name Kohl after her second marriage in May 2012.

Kircher is a member of the supervisory boards of RWE AG , Austrian Airlines AG (until June 2019) and Andritz AG , KELAG -Kärntner Elektrizitäts-AG and Siemens AG Austria as well as chairwoman of the supervisory board of Kärntner Energieholding Beteiligungs GmbH and chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Kärntner Landesmuseum .

At the beginning of 2019, she was named among the top 10 by the industry magazine on the list of the most influential women in Austrian business. In July 2019, the art and culture foundation she initiated was presented in Carinthia.
