Monika Well (2015)

Monika Well (born May 7, 1961 in Günzlhofen ) is a Bavarian musician and cabaret artist . She is a founding member of Wellküren .

Life

Well grew up as the youngest child of 15 siblings in the Well musician family from Günzlhofen in the Fürstenfeldbruck district . Father Hermann Well, school director and choir director of the village, and mother Gertraud introduced their children to Bavarian folk music from an early age . Well learned the dulcimer for the large family's parlor music and took over the 3rd voice in the girls' triple song . After training as an educator, she worked in various youth facilities and kindergartens.

In 1986 she founded the music cabaret group Wellküren with her sisters Burgi and Vroni . This created the female counterpart to Biermösl Blosn (which was dissolved in 2012) , which was founded by brothers Christoph , Michael Well and Hans Well 10 years earlier. Like these, the well-rounded Bavarian folk music combines stubnmusi and dialect with political and satirical texts and can therefore be classified as part of the so-called new folk music . In terms of content, however, the three sisters focus more on social and gender issues. With their mix of folk music and satire, the three sisters are now among the longest serving groups on the German cabaret and cabaret stages. In February 2012 Well had its premiere at the Münchner Kammerspiele with the house music evening “Fein sein beinander bleibn”, directed by Franz Wittenbrink with her siblings Bärbi, Burgi, Karl, Michael and Christoph. This formation has since appeared under the name Geschwister Well .

From January to June 2019, Well, alternating with Christian Neureuther, took on the role of co-host at the Sunday get-together on BR TV . Due to ongoing audience criticism against Monika Well, the BR separated from her prematurely in July 2019.

Well is the mother of two children and lives with her husband in Oberschweinbach .
