Monique Ludwigs , née Monique Riesterer (born December 3, 1971 in Rheinfelden ), is a former German weightlifter .

Career

Monique Riesterer grew up in Lörrach and trained there to be an offset printer. At KSV Lörrach, she began weightlifting as a teenager, under the guidance of her father Herbert Riesterer , who was also a weightlifter and also became her first trainer. In Germany weightlifting women had not yet been established, and it took a relatively long time was come into European or international top class to Monique Riesterer. In 1990 she won her first German championship title, and in 1998 the European championship title in the heavyweight open top (over 75 kg body weight). In order to develop further, she moved to Berlin in the mid-1990s, where she started at TSC Berlin and was trained there by Eberhard Deutscher . Towards the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 2000s she was injured several times and, after recovering, had to realize that she was no longer in the world class, which consisted primarily of the Chinese and Russian weightlifters and the Polish woman Agata Wrobel could keep up. She then ended her career. Monique Riesterer is the most successful German weightlifter with 20 medals won at European Championships.

Her duel performance of 247.5 kg, achieved in Lörrach on September 9, 2000, is still a German record; this also applies to the 112.5 kg achieved in the snatch on September 22, 2000 at the Olympic Games in Sydney (status: 20. July 2012).

She has been married to Mario Ludwigs , a former TSC Berlin weightlifter , since 2004 , and has a daughter with him.
