Montenegro Airlines is the national airline of Montenegro based in Podgorica and based at Podgorica Airport .
history
Montenegro Airlines was founded in 1994, but was only able to start operating on May 7, 1997 due to the economic and political situation in Yugoslavia . The first connection was with a Fokker F28 to Bari in Italy. In 1998 the second F28 was purchased and the goals were expanded. However, the expansion was stopped by the sanctions against Yugoslavia in early 1999 . Montenegro Airlines was only able to resume flight operations in the autumn of 1999.
The first Fokker 100 was added to the fleet in 2000 and three more aircraft were purchased in the three following years. These replaced the Fokker F28.
In 2006, Montenegro Airlines founded the now non-existent subsidiary Master Airways , based in Serbian Nis . That same year in June the company carried its two millionth passenger.
In 2014 it became known that the balance sheets had been falsified in previous years . The company has been led by Zoran Đurišić since 1994, who resigned in November 2013. The new management , led by Živko Banjević, has made the authorities aware of the irregularities in the balance sheet.
The airline is still in financial difficulties and is supported by the Montenegrin government.
