Well

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1242. In the 16th century, the Polish King Stephan Báthory lent the village to the judge Wilhelm Sturz. He founded the court of the same name there. In the course of the goods reduction, the courtyard was moved. In 1717 he came back into private ownership together with Kauksi . From 1810 the estate was owned by the noble Baltic German family Nolcken . The last private owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was Baron Eduard von Nolcken.

The magnificent two-story main building of the estate was completed in 1909 under the von Nolcken family. It was created according to the plans of the architect August Reinberg in the Heimat style . Numerous outbuildings as well as the over thirty hectare park with elements in the English style are also well preserved .

Today there is a guest house and a restaurant as well as a theater and an arts center (MoKS) that was established in 2001 .

In 1766 the first school in the village was founded. Today it is also located in the former manor house of the estate.
