Moritz Freiherr von und zu Franckenstein (born March 18, 1869 in Ullstadt Castle , Sugenheim ; † January 24, 1931 in Grambschütz Castle , Namslau , Upper Silesia ) was a Bavarian Reichsrat , member of the state parliament and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

origin

Moritz came from the noble family of Franckenstein . He was the son of Baron Georg Arbogast von und zu Franckenstein (1825–1890) and his wife Maria Theresia Wilhelmine, Princess of Oettingen-Wallerstein .

Career

Franckenstein attended the Royal Ludwigsgymnasium in Munich , then the universities of Würzburg , Leipzig and Munich , where he took his university exams in 1890. After completing his legal studies, he was Royal District Office Assessor in Nördlingen from 1896 to 1905 , Royal Government Assessor in Regensburg from 1905 to 1908 and Royal District Administrator in Vilshofen from 1908 to 1914 . After his brother's death, he had to take over the family property and leave the Bavarian civil service.

From 1905 to 1914 he was a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies , but resigned his mandate in 1914, as he automatically became a member of the Bavarian Reichsratskammer through the death of his brother Johann Karl von und zu Franckenstein (1858-1913). From 1915 to 1918 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency Middle Franconia 4 ( Eichstätt , Beilngries , Weissenburg ) and the German Center Party .

In 1907 Franckenstein acted as Vice President of the German Catholic Congress in Würzburg . After 1918 he campaigned politically for the reintroduction of the monarchy and helped found the Bavarian People's Party .

family

Moritz von und zu Franckenstein married Maria Pia Countess zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1870–1913), daughter of Count Alfred zu Stolberg-Stolberg (1835–1880). He had five children with her:

  • Georg (1898–1965) ⚭ Karoline, Princess of Schönburg-Hartenstein (1898–1985)
  • Marie Leopoldine (1901–1970)
  • Heinrich (1902–1991) ⚭ 1953 Theresa Maria Josefa Riccabona von Reichenfels (* 1909)
  • Marie Elisabeth (1905-1919)

After her death, he married Countess Maria von Preysing-Lichtenegg-Moos (1890–1979), the sister of the later Cardinal Count Konrad von Preysing . This connection remained without offspring.
