Moritz zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst

Moritz Karl Viktor zu Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst , also Moritz zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (born August 6, 1862 in Lindau in Lake Constance , † February 27, 1940 in Schillingsfürst ) was a German statesman. From 1915 to 1940 he was head of the Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst family .

Life

Moritz was the second eldest son of Prince Chlodwig zu Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst (1819-1901) and Marie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein -Berleburg (1829-1897), granddaughter of Russian Field Marshal Ludwig Adolf Peter zu Sayn-Wittgenstein and the eldest daughter Prince Ludwig Adolf Friedrich to Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn . Prince Moritz joined the Prussian army in 1885 after graduating from high school in Wiesbaden and studying law and political science at the universities of Graz , Vienna and Leipzig .

From his brother Philipp Ernst he inherited the hierarchy of Schillingsfürst and the Bohemian rule of Podebrad in 1915 , which had to be sold after the First World War . In 1924 he entrusted the administration of the Schillingsfürst estate to his eldest son Franz Josef, an important genealogist who over the decades wrote numerous genealogical works that were highly praised by experts.

In 1893 he married the princess and former countess Rosa zu Salm- Reifferscheidt-Krautheim and Dyck, with whom he lived mostly in Altaussee ( Styria ) and Munich after retiring from active military service . The couple had the following five children:
