Morten Wormskjold (also Wormskiold ; born January 16, 1783 in Copenhagen , † November 22, 1845 in Gavnø ) was a Danish botanist and traveler. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Wormsk. "

Life

Wormskjold was the son of Peder W. Wormskjold (1750-1824) and Margrethe (nee de Teilman, 1757-1837). He first studied law from 1801 and passed the legal exam in 1805. He then began to study botany at the University of Copenhagen and in 1807 went on a botanical excursion through Norway with Jens Wilken Hornemann and Christen Smith. In 1808 he was appointed lieutenant in the "Sjællandske Skarpskytte Corps". From 1812 to 1815 he went on a scientific trip to Greenland to make drawings for the Flora Danica . He took in 1816 at the World Travel of Otto von Kotzebue part and stayed for two years on Kamchatka . Wormskjold brought back many new plants from his travels. Honors

After him, the plant genus Wormskioldia is Thonn. named from the passion flower family (Passifloraceae).
