The Mount Nebo is with a height of 3637 meters the highest peak in the Wasatch Range (Engl. Wasatch Range ) in the US - state of Utah . The Wasatch Range is part of the Rocky Mountains .

Mount Nebo is located about 105 kilometers south of the city of Salt Lake City and is directly east of Interstate 15 at the level of the Mona exit ( Exit 233 ). The mountain forms the heart of the Mount Nebo Wilderness , a popular destination for hikers in the Uinta National Forest . The towns of Payson and Nephi and the city of Provo are also located near Mount Nebo . Mount Nebo is located in the Utah counties of Juab and Utah .

Mount Nebo was named after Mount Nebo in Jordan , which is mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible and which has a special meaning in the Christian faith .

Mount Nebo has two peaks: the north peak, which is 3637 meters high, and the south peak, which is about 15 meters lower. In the period from mid-October to July, the peaks are mostly partially or completely covered with snow.

There is a convenient way for drivers to explore the area. The Mount Nebo Scenic Byway , a road that belongs to the National Scenic Byways , runs from Payson over a distance of approximately 70 kilometers and at an altitude of up to 2,750 meters past the two peaks to the east and ends in Nephi. The route offers panoramic views of Mount Nebo and the Utah Valley , as well as Utah Lake far below. There are numerous hiking trails along the route, which can also be used as a starting point for hikes to the north or south summit. As a special hike along this road, a stroll to Devil's Kitchen is recommended, an area described as Mini Bryce Canyon .
