history
Excavations carried out north of the city in 1965–1966 revealed information about the early residents of the area. Around the year 1300 here lived members of the Fremont culture that the hunt went about and agriculture operated.
In 1851 the settlement took place by the Mormons . The place was initially called Salt Creek, like the stream of the same name that runs here. The settlers began farming the surrounding land and built a fort for their protection, which was completed in 1854 . The Fort Salt Creek had boundary walls about 3.6 meters were high. There were gate entrances in the north and south walls of the rectangular fortifications. An original segment of the fort wall has been in Nephi City Park since 1933 . In the city of Nephi today there are markings that mark the location of the former fort. In 1882 the place was named after the Book of Mormon prophet Nephi . Seven years later, Nephi officially became a city.
