Mount Vernon is a city and county seat of Franklin County in the US state of Texas . About 2700 people live in an area of almost 10 square kilometers.
Mount Vernon is part of the Ark-La-Tex socio-economic region that includes the states of Arkansas , Louisiana , Oklahoma, and Texas.

Mount Vernon is located in the southeastern state of Texas in the southern United States , about 110 kilometers from the eastern border with Arkansas and 80 kilometers from the northern border with Oklahoma. The city is located in a lake landscape that extends from northern Oklahoma to the Gulf of Mexico . A few kilometers southeast of the city is a structure of three large lakes, 38 kilometers northwest is the approximately 78 square kilometers Jim Chapman Lake .
The nearest towns are Purley (7 km south), Saltillo (7 km west), Miller's Cove (8 km east), Mount Pleasant (20 km east) and Sulfur Springs (30 km west). The next big city with over 1.2 million inhabitants is Dallas, about 140 kilometers southwest .

In the north of the city, US Highway 67 runs from west to east , which runs for over 2,500 kilometers from west Texas to Iowa in the northern United States. In the north-west of the city, it runs along the same route as Texas State Highway 37 for about 500 meters . Interstate 30 , which runs from Fort Worth to central Arizona, also runs south of the city .
Mount Vernon is also connected to regional air traffic via Franklin County Airport , north of the city . Around 5,700 aircraft movements are made there every year.
Demographics
The 2000 census showed a population of 2286 people, divided between 903 households and 582 families. The population density was around 239 people per square kilometer. 77.2% of the population were white, 13.5% black, 0.6% Indians and 0.3% Asians. 7.2% were of a different ethnicity , 1.2% had two or more ethnicities, and 10.8% were Hispanic or Latin American of any ethnicity. The average age was 36 years, for every 100 women there were about 87 men. The per capita income was around $ 16,200, with almost 18% of the population living below the poverty line.
By the 2010 census , the population had increased to 2,662.
