Ms. Ooja
Ms.Ooja ( stylized as "Ms.OOJA") (born October 28, 1982 in Yokkaichi , Mie Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese singer-songwriter with J-pop and R&B influences and is under contract with Universal Music Japan .
Life
She is the eldest daughter in her family with a brother and two sisters. She started her musical career at the age of 17. After graduating from school in Yokkaichi, she gave activities in the Japanese club scene while working in a clothing store and thus started her first stage experience in Nagoya . Before she learned to sing, however, she learned to dance.
Career
According to her own statements, part of her real name should be hidden in her stage name, but there is no information about her real name.
In July 2006 she made her debut in the Japanese music market as an independent musician. For this she finally moved to Nagoya, where she also worked in the clothing store. On May 20, 2009, she collaborated with the Japanese rapper El Latino as a duo, named El Latino & Ms.Ooja and released the studio album Impact . It was through this that Universal Music Japan employees became aware of her and gave her the opportunity for a large order from a real record company. She eventually got offers from other record companies, but she stayed with Universal Music Japan.
She released her first single It's Ok on February 16, 2011, but only rose to # 127 on the Oricon charts and stayed there for a week. She built on her first success with her fifth single Be ... , as the single could sell up to 15,000 times and made it to # 20 in the charts. Her studio album Heart , released in 2012, made it to # 1 in the daily Oricon charts for the first time in her career, to # 4 in the weekly charts and stayed in the charts for 17 weeks.
For April 2016, her song Be ... was awarded two times platinum, which corresponds to 500,000 legal downloads.
