from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maulana Muhammad Ali (* 1874 in Punjab , British India ; † October 13, 1951 ) was the Emir of the Ahmadiyya Andschuman Ischat-i-Islam Lahore (AAIIL) from April 1914 to October 1951.

biography

He joined the Ahmadiyya movement in 1897 and consecrated his life for service for that movement in 1900.

In 1902 Maulana Muhammad Ali became the editor of the Review of Religions, one of the first Islamic journals in English. When Mirza Ghulam Ahmad founded the "Ahmadiyya Anjuman Ishaat-i-Islam" (an organization to lead the Ahmadiyya movement) in 1905, he named Maulana Muhammad Ali as the secretary of his Executive Council (Amla).

In March 1914, when Hakim Nuur ud-Din , Caliphate ul-Massih I died, Mirza Bashir ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad , the son of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, succeeded him. The election of the 25-year-old caused disagreements with Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya over the interpretation of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's will. The dispute also revolved around different interpretations of verse 33:40 of the Koran , which describes Mohammed as the "seal of the prophets". The position of Sadr (Chairman) Anjuman Ahmadiyya and the Caliphate were in dispute. Maulana Muhammad Ali, among others , believed that Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya should lead the movement, while Mirza Bashir ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad believed that the caliph was the leader and the chairman of the Executive Council (Amla). Further disputes revolved around the position of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as the Promised Messiah and Mahdi .

This unresolved conflict led the section of Sadr Anjuman Ahmadiyya with Maulana Muhammad Ali and other senior members of the Ahmadiyya movement to relocate from Qadian to Lahore. They became known under the name Ahmadiyya Andschuman Ischat-i-Islam Lahore ("Lahore-Ahmadiyya movement for the spread of Islam") or in short as the "Lahoris".

Maulana Muhammad Ali has directed this organization since it was founded in 1914, organizing its worldwide missionary activities and publishing a large amount of literature in English and Urdu . He translated the Quran with commentary in both English and Urdu. His English-language publications included The Religion of Islam , Muhammad the Prophet , A Manual of Hadith , The New World Order, and Living Thoughts of the Prophet Mohammed .
