Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin (born August 16, 1995 in Negeri Sembilan ) is a Malaysian discus thrower .

Career

Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin gained his first international experience in 2013 when he won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Naypyidaw with a new national record of 53.16 m. The following year he won the bronze medal at the Junior Asian Championships 2014 in Taipei with 56.07 m and thus qualified for the Junior World Championships in Eugene , where he was eliminated with 57.74 m in the first round. At the beginning of October he first took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , where he finished tenth with 53.86 m. The following year he was ninth at the Asian Championships in Wuhan with 54.27 m, won the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore with 56.62 m and was classified twelfth at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju with 53.79 m. Two years later he won the silver medal behind Iranian Ehsan Hadadi at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 60.96 m and then won again at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur with 58.36 m . He then reached twelfth place in the final with 53.48 m at the Student World Games in Taipei. In 2018 he participated in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he was eliminated without a valid attempt in qualification. At the end of August he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta and finished fifth with 57.70 m.

In 2019 he finished ninth at the Asian Championships in Doha with a width of 55.18 m. He then failed at the Summer Universiade in Naples with 54.28 m in qualification and won his fourth title in a row at the Southeast Asian Games in Capas in December with 57.29 m.

In 2013, 2018 and 2019 Irfan Shamsuddin became the Malaysian champion in discus throw. He is a student at Malaya University .
