Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli (born March 15, 1990 in Gombak ) is a Malaysian Paralympic athlete who specializes in the shot put. He competes in the F20 class, which is defined by the international Paralympic Committee as intellectual impairment . He became Olympic champion in 2016 and has also held the world record since that year.

Career

In 2012 Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli took part in the Paralympics in London , where he won the bronze medal with a width of 15.21 m behind the Australian Todd Hodgetts and Jeffrey Ige from Sweden. The following year he improved at the World Championships for the disabled in Lyon to 15.23 m and won the gold medal. In 2014 he then won the Para-Asian Games in Incheon and in 2015 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Doha with 15.37 m behind the Australian Hodgetts and Dimitrios Senikidis from Greece. In 2016 he again took part in the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro , where he set a new world record with 16.84 m and thus secured the gold medal. The following year he improved the world record in the course of the World Championships in London to 17.23 m and won his second title. He then started at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur , where he won the bronze medal behind the Thais Promrob Juntima and Thawat Khachin with 17.12 m .

In 2018 he won again at the Para-Asian Games in Jakarta and in 2019 he won the silver medal behind the Ukrainian Maksym Kowal at the World Championships in Dubai with a stroke of 17.03 m . In December he won the Southeast Asian Games in Capas with 17.03 m, the silver medal behind the Filipino Willie Morrison .
