The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina is a district in the La Paz department . The municipality takes its name from the Strait of Tiquina , an 800 m wide strait that connects the northern part of Lake Titicaca with the southern part.
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina is one of three municipalities in the Manco Kapac province and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It is bordered by Lake Titicaca to the south, east and north , the Republic of Peru to the south , and the Municipio Tito Yupanqui to the northeast .
The municipality has 31 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is San Pedro de Tiquina with 694 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality, the largest place is San Pablo de Tiquina with 981 inhabitants on the northeast side of the Strait of Tiquina. (2001)

The municipality of San Pedro de Tiquina is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the Copacabana Peninsula in Lake Titicaca at an average altitude of 3850 m . The annual average temperature of the municipality is 10 ° C (see climate diagram El Alto), the annual precipitation is about 600 mm. The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 11 ° C in December. the monthly precipitation is between less than 10 mm in the months of June and July and around 100 mm from December to February.
