Tenabo is a municipality in the Mexican state of Campeche . The municipality has 9736 inhabitants (2010 census) and is 1062 km² in size. The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Tenabo of the same name .
geography
The municipality of Tenabo is located in the north of the Mexican state of Campeche at heights of up to about 100 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula (about two thirds to the sub-region of the Yucatec Karst and one third to the karst and hill country of Campeche) or about 82% to the hydrographic region of Yucatán Norte and about 18% to the region Yucatán Oeste . The geology of the municipality is determined by 69% limestone and 20% by lacustric deposits; The predominant soil types are Leptosol (42%), Nitisol (15%) and Solonchak (13%). About two thirds of the community area is forested, a good ten percent is used for farming.
The municipality of Tenabo borders on the municipalities of Hopelchén , Hecelchakán and Campeche .

In the 2010 census, 9736 people were counted in 2376 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1,755 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,685 speakers of the Mayathan . A good 13 percent of the population was illiterate. 3752 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 76% were men or 1.2% were unemployed. Over 19% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
