geography

course

The Muranzina rises as a nameless brook at around 2730  m slm on the Stilfser Joch . The source is located below the Dreisprachenspitze around 180 meters southeast of the border and right next to the Hotel Albergo Folgore . It crosses under the SS38 and passes the headwaters of the Braulio . Before crossing under the SS38 again, it feeds part of its water into one of its source streams. You follow the road on the left bank for a short time before it turns away while the stream crosses the state border and is now called Muranzina.

It runs north and reaches at 2351  m above sea level. M. the bottom of the Val Muraunza. It passes the Umbrail Pass , located above the left bank , from which a short stream flows towards it. This is followed by an often dry section that opens into a small pond, after which it is accompanied by the Umbrailpass road on the left bank. This is followed by the confluence of the water of the Funtauna dal Tschütsch spring and a bridge over the pass road. After the confluence of two more streams from the left at Alp Muraunza , it usually carries more water again, although this is usually not visible due to gravel and sand. The stream from the Val Gronda flows towards it from the right , after which forests first stretch out on the valley slopes.

It reaches the Era Viglia area and is spanned twice by the pass road in quick succession. Shortly before the Punt Teal , water is extracted from the Muranzina with the help of two Tyrolean weirs , which is then fed to the turbine of the Muranzina power plant using a pressure tunnel . At the same time, its most important tributary flows from the right with the Aua da Prasüra coming from the Val Costainas . The Muranzina turns to the north-west and receives the water of the valleys Val Prasürabun and Val Teatscha from the left on before starting around height of the inn Alpenrose form a tight and dense wooded gorge, a retention basin is at the end thereof. It flows shortly to the northeast and takes on another important tributary with the outflow of the Val Scharis from the right.
