Surname
The name Murn probably comes from the Bavarian Mur (sand, stone rubble) and can therefore be translated as "Sandbach". The river has had this name since at least the 16th century, as shown by Philipp Apian's Bavarian country tables (Plate 19).
geography
course
The origin of the Murn is the confluence of the Surerbach with the Surbrunner Bach near Kirchensur in the district of Rosenheim , from where it flows, first as Murnbach , to the south and is only called Murn with increasing width. It changes direction several times in an S-shape until it finally flows north, flowing into the Inn near Obermühl in the municipality of Griesstätt .

- ↑ Water code number , in Germany the official river code number with a separator inserted after the prefix for better readability, which stands for the common Murn receiving water .
Structural measures
At the end of 2015, the concrete fall of the former Petermühle on the Murn (near Amerang ) was converted into a base ramp . This restored the passability of the river for fish and other animals at this point.
Further measures on the Murn took place at Locking (also at Amerang) until 2018 , including flattening the bank edge and installing stones and rhizomes to slow the flow of water and offer fish a better spawning area. It is also intended to improve the habitat conditions of the endangered river mussel .
