Saint-Maden ( Breton : Sant-Maden ) is a French commune with 231 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dinan and the Canton of Broons . The residents call themselves Madennais (es) .
geography
Saint-Maden is about 38 kilometers north-west of Rennes and 36 kilometers south of Saint-Malo in the east of the Côtes-d'Armor department.
history
The parish was part of the Dinan District from 1793 to 1801. It was also part of the canton of Trefumel from 1793 to 1801 and part of the canton of Caulnes from 1801 to 2015 (canton of Saint-Jouan-de-l'Isle until 1881). Since 1801, Saint-Maden has been administratively part of the Arrondissement of Dinan. Saint-Maden was first mentioned by name as Sanctus Madigni around 1170/1180 in a deed of donation from the Lord of Dinan to the Abbey of Saint-Melaine in Rennes.
