Mégrit ( Breton : Megrid ) is a French commune with 818 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Côtes-d'Armor department in the Brittany region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Dinan and the Canton of Broons . The residents call themselves Mégritiens / Mégritiennes .

geography

Mégrit is located about 51 kilometers northwest of Rennes and 35 kilometers southwest of Saint-Malo in the east of the Côtes-d'Armor department.

history

The parish was part of the Broons district from 1793 to 1801. It was also part of the canton of Megrit from 1793 to 1801 and has been part of the canton of Broons since 1801 . Since 1801, Mégrit has been administratively part of the Arrondissement of Dinan. First mention of Mégrit by name as Miguerit around 1108/1110 in a letter from the Jugon priory.

The increasing mechanization of agriculture and the high number of those who died in the First World War led to a drop in the number of inhabitants to the lows of recent times.
