geography

history

Remains and finds from the Stone Age and the Roman road leading through the municipality from Alet to Corseul indicate an early settlement. In the Middle Ages, the Lords of Guitté were the first of a series of noble families to administer the place. In 1832 there was an important exchange of territory with the municipality of Médréac . The parish was part of the Dinan District from 1793 to 1801. It was also part of the canton of Trefumel from 1793 to 1801, then of the canton of Saint-Jouan-de-l'Ille and from 1881 to 2015 of the canton of Caulnes . Since 1801, Guitté has been administratively part of the Arrondissement of Dinan. Guitté was first mentioned by name in 1148 in a deed of donation to Boquen Abbey.
