Muschwitz is the name of a Meissnian - Saxon , later Brandenburg - Prussian noble family . Branches of the family currently persist.

The sex Muschwitz is the Lausitz nobility belonging and was with Mattheus de Muscewitz , Castellan in St. Afra in Meissen , in 1205, and with Rudegerus de Muscewitz first mentioned on 26 September 1222 in a document. The family is divided into two tribes, the closer filiation of which is not certain.

From the beginning of the 15th century until 1738, the Lords of Muschwitz, as owners of the village of Neupetershain, also owned the associated knight's seat, a moated castle , which was first mentioned in 1405. Leuthen and the Wintdorf Vorwerk were owned by the family from 1463 to 1945. From 1564 Caspar Siegmund von Muschwitz had Wintdorf Castle built. In 1536, Leeskow was first mentioned as a family property. Petershain, a place near Neupetershain, and Leuthen, part of today's Drebkau municipality, also belonged to the family's property. In 1691 Hans Caspar the Younger von Muschwitz sold the village of Leeskow to Christoph Heinrich von Lambo for 3,100 Thaler . Straussdorf was family-owned from 1575 to 1747, but not continuously. The Geisendorf manor dates back to the 17th century. The foundation stone was laid around 1600. The last heir to the estate was Alfred von Muschwitz (1858–1937). Elisabeth Tugendreich von Muschwitz acquired the Klein Düben man fief in 1692 for 4,600 thalers. Since she only had two daughters, her brothers became feudal bearers . In 1794 Wolf Heinrich von Muschwitz was landlord in Lohsa .

The tombstone for AFE von Muschwitz in Steinitz is part of the Brandenburg Monument No. 09125377.

From 1859 to 1886 Rittmeister Friedrich Ehrenreich von Muschwitz was the owner of the Kyrill-Palais in Coburg . In 1868 he arranged for the upper floor windows to be raised and the mansard roof to be built.

The family coat of arms shows a silver-horned red bull's head turned forward in blue or silver . On the red and silver puffed helmet with the same blankets, the red bull's head between two buffalo horns cut across the corner by red and silver .
