The Mutterbach is an orographically left tributary of the Main in Lower Franconia . It is officially listed as Breitenbach in the register of creek and river areas in Bavaria . In Hessen he is called Steinbach ; he gave the short-lived community Steinbachtal . The average discharge is 120 liters per second. In rare flood events, runoffs of 20 cubic meters per second can be expected.

The Mutterbach rises west of Haingrund in the Odenwald , runs north-east through Seck walls and flows north of Wörth am Main into the Main.
It has a total length of 7.7 km, of which 5.9 km are in Hesse and 1.8 km in Bavaria . This means 14.1 km² of the 18 km² catchment area of the brook in Hesse.

Environment (fauna)
In the 2012 fish population survey by the Hessian State Office for Environment and Geology , the Institute for Applied Ecology found 65 brown trout and 2 rainbow trout on a 300 m long section of the Mutterbach .
history
On the lower reaches of the Mutterbach (at that time still called Breitenbach) three mills are occupied. The oldest of the three mills (middle mill or brick mill) existed demonstrably from 1407. It belonged to Cent Lützelbach and was operated as a ban mill for Wörth, Seckmauern, Haingrund and Trennfurt , i. H. the inhabitants of these places were obliged to have their bread grain ground there. The right to ban was officially lifted at the beginning of the 19th century.
