Mykola Antonowytsch Slawow (born September 1, 1926 in Terniwka , Mykolaiv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ; † March 23, 2006 ) was a Ukrainian economist , diplomat and politician.

Life

In his youth, Mykola Slavov was an avid boxer, and in this sport he became the Ukrainian champion and winner of the team championships of the USSR. During his later years he was also honorary president of the Ukrainian professional boxing league.

Mykola Slawow studied between 1943 and 1948 at the Naval University in Odessa industrial engineer for water transport. In 1972 he became a doctor of economics.

Between August 1956 and July 1967 Slavov was head of the Zaporizhia river port , from July 1967 to February 1968 deputy. Transport manager of the "main river fleet of the USSR" and then from February 1968 and November 1973 head of the Kiev river port . From November 1973 to July 1988 he was in charge of the river fishing fleet of Ukraine. Between July 1988 and March 1990 he was the USSR's first deputy minister of transport. From March 1990 onwards he worked for the privatized shipping company Ukrrechflot AG ( Акціонерна судноплавна компанія Укррічфлот ), since November 1993 as its president and in 2004 as its honorary president. From 1991 to 1995 he was the Ukrainian representative of the Danube Commission , since 1994 he was also President of the International Association of Black Sea Shipowners.

Between 1957 and 1967 he was a member of the Zaporizhia City Council, from 1969 to 1971 a member of the Podil District Council in Kiev and from 1971 to 1976 a member of the Kiev City Council.

Mykola Slawow was a member of the Verkhovna Rada , the Ukrainian parliament , from December 10, 1995 to May 12, 1998 .
