Myroslav Lyubachivskyi
Myroslav Ivan Cardinal Ljubatschiwskyj ( Ukrainian Мирослав Іван Любачівський , scientific. Transliteration Myroslav Ivan Ljubačivs'kyj * 24. June 1914 in Dolyna , Austria-Hungary ; † 14. December 2000 in Lviv ) was Archbishop of Philadelphia , later Major Archbishop of Lviv of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church .
Life
Myroslaw Iwan Lyubatschiwskyj received his theological and philosophical training in Lviv, Canisianum in Innsbruck , Sion and Rome . He received his doctorate in Catholic theology and received on 28 September 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 1938 to 1942 he worked as a pastor in Lviv before continuing his studies in Rome until 1947. From 1947 to 1979 he looked after the Ukrainian Catholics of the Chrysostom rite living there as a parish priest in various cities in the USA . He also worked in priestly training and as a university teacher. He also wrote numerous contributions for Vatican Radio .
In 1979 he received by Pope John Paul II. The episcopal ordination and became Bishop of Philadelphia for the Christians of the Ukrainian-Catholic rite. In 1980 Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop with the right of succession to the Archdiocese of Lviv for the Catholics of the Ukrainian Rite, of which Myroslaw Iwan Lyubatschiwskyj became the leader in 1984. In 1985 the Pope accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Sofia a Via Boccea in the college of cardinals . In 1991 he returned to Lviv and took over the management of the local government.
Myroslaw Iwan Lyubatschiwskyj died on December 14, 2000 in Lviv and was buried in the local St. George's Cathedral .
