Mystery Science Theater 3000 is an American movie from 1996 . It is an offshoot of the television series of the same name (only published in English-speaking countries) . The free TV premiere in Germany was only on April 18, 2014 on Tele 5 as part of the 20th anniversary of Kalkofe's screen . Oliver Kalkofe also helped translate the film.

action

The evil scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester, who works in his underground laboratory, Deep 13, explains that he doesn't want to drive Mike Nelson crazy with the film Metaluna IV Answers . Mike Nelson, Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot live with Gypsy on board the Satellite of Love , which orbits Earth .

prolog

Before This Island Earth begins, Mike is trained in a giant hamster wheel and then greeted by Gypsy, and Servo joins them. After a few references to Servo, Mike notices a dull pounding in the background, and Servo indicates that Crow is not there. He saw him with a pickaxe. Mike immediately notices the danger behind it and immediately goes to Crow. He hacks a hole in the Satellite of Love with the pickaxe in order to build a tunnel to earth, although he knows himself that the idea is not clever and would kill everyone.

1. Sketch

The film is interrupted by a film tear and Mike wants to fly the Satellite of Love to earth. Due to his lack of flying skills, he crashes into the Hubble space telescope ; with the help of gripper arms, he transports the telescope back into space, which, however, immediately falls "down" to earth. Mike even mentions that this is illogical.

2. Sketch

The film is interrupted here because Servo realizes that he also has an interrozitor (a machine that appears in the film) and could bring them all to earth. They contact a Metalunan through the interrogator. Dr. However, Forrester breaks the connection and sends her back to the cinema.

epilogue

The movie is over and Dr. Forrester believes Mike's mind is broken, but it isn't. Everyone at the Satellite of Love is celebrating a "Metaluna Party", Dr. Forrester accidentally teleports away using the interrozitor and Mike, Servo and Crow are "happy" that they can never return to Earth.

Allusions

Some film quotes from the German translation and their meanings are listed here.

  • Tom Servo: "Oh Peine, pearl of Lower Saxony"

Oliver Kalkofe (voice actor for Tom Servo) grew up in Peine .

  • Tom Servo: "And behind gate 1 is: An iron ladder!"
Crow: "No, that's the Zonk."

This is a nod to the game show Go All Out! , in which you received the “Zonk”, a black and red plush mouse, as a consolation prize.

  • Crow: "Hey Brekki, did you have to eat cat food before?"

This is an allusion to Brekkies -Katzenfutter.

reception

The lexicon of international films judges that the film could entertain friends of B-movies to a limited extent, were it not for Oliver Kalkofe's dubbing, which "leads into the deepest depths of flaccidity".
