Ní Gudix

Ní Gudix (actually Gudrun Rupp ; born September 21, 1975 in Ravensburg ) is a German freelance literary translator , author , literary critic and since 2013 also publisher .

Life

Gudrun Rupp grew up in her native Ravensburg in Upper Swabia . She began to write as a schoolgirl and was interested in the theater. Since 1994 until today (2014) she writes regularly for various alternative newspapers and magazines . After completing school, she studied German and English-language literature at the University of Konstanz , the latter increasingly with a focus on Ireland and Scotland . In 1999 she received a scholarship for a semester abroad at Trinity College in the Irish capital Dublin . She dealt there u. a. with the work of the Irish poet Gerald Dawe (* 1952), who worked at Trinity College , whose poems she later translated into German . In addition, during her studies she dealt in particular with the literary works of Samuel Beckett , Seán O'Casey , James Joyce , William Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde . In 2002 she completed her studies with a thesis on Shakespeare's King Lear with a Master of Arts (MA) .

In 2004 Rupp went to Berlin . She works under the pseudonym Ní Gudix primarily as a freelance literary translator and is also active as a freelance writer , playwright and reciter . As Ní Gudix, she has published numerous texts, essays and translations in various anthologies and literary magazines . She also writes literary reviews . Since 2005 she has been a member of the Association of German Translators (VdÜ).

In 2006 she received a residency grant as Writer in Residence at the Villa Decius in Krakow , Poland . In 2007 her translation of Gerald Dawes' poems received a Translation Grant from the Irish Literature Exchange Foundation.

Since 2013, Gudix has also been the publisher and editor-in-chief of the newly founded Berlin literary magazine LaborBefund - Literature from Reality. Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne active. The magazine published by Andreas Balck has been published monthly in a small print edition since March 2013.

Ní Gudix (aka Gudrun Rupp ) lives in Berlin- Neukölln .
