NGC 1965 is an emission nebula with an embedded open star cluster in the Large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Swordfish . The object is about 160,000 light years away and forms part of the LH 58 complex with NGC 1962 , NGC 1966 and NGC 1970 in the New General Catalog .
The star cluster was discovered on January 31, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel .
