NGC 1978 is the name for a young, blue globular cluster in the Large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Swordfish . Blue globular clusters are young objects, usually only around 50 million years old, which are typically found in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
The star cluster was discovered on November 6, 1826 by the astronomer James Dunlop .
