NGC 1966 is an emission nebula with an embedded open star cluster in the Large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Swordfish . The object, as well as NGC 1962 , NGC 1965 and NGC 1970 in the New General Catalog are parts of the LH 58 complex.

The star cluster was discovered on January 31, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel .
