Nui is one of the six atolls of Tuvalu . Nui has 542 inhabitants (as of 2012), a land area of 2.83 square kilometers and a lagoon area of more than 14 square kilometers.
Geography and climate
Nui consists of at least 21 islands . On the islands there is officially a village called Tanrake .
The largest islands from north to south are:
- Meang
- Tokinivae
- Talalolae
- Pakantou
- Piliaieve
- Unimai
- Pongalei
- Motupuakaka
- Fenua Tapu with Tanrake
Tropical storms often occur in the rainy season from November to April. In March 2015, Nui was badly damaged by cyclone Pam with top speeds of 324 km / h. Most of the crops were lost.
Language and culture
The Nuians are Micronesians . You speak Kiribati . This distinguishes them from the rest of the inhabitants of Tuvalu, who are all Polynesians and speak Tuvaluan .
