Nachtgeschrei was a German group from Frankfurt am Main founded in spring 2006 , whose music is assigned to medieval rock or folk metal .

history

Night shouting in the amphitheater Hanau, September 17, 2010

The band consisted of the members of the former folk rock band Black Sheep (Joachim Penc, Dominik Stephan and Sanedin Pepeljak) and the melodic death metal band Paimon (Oliver Klein, Daniel Arncken and Tilman Scholz).

After their founding, Nachtgeschrei released a promo and demo CD in 2006 and 2007, which the band sold at concerts and festivals via their own merchandising stand and their homepage. Some of the songs that were released on the promo CDs made it onto the band's debut, including Der Meister and Let Me Out . Since Nachtgeschrei signed a contract with the music label Massacre Records , the promos are no longer sold.

On May 2, 2008, the debut album Glimmer of Hope was released on Massacre Records. The band and the album were featured in the magazines Rock Hard (album got 7 out of 10 points), Metal Hammer (6 out of 7 points), Sonic Seducer , EMP, Legacy , Zillo and the Gothic magazine each in the May issue presented.

On March 20, 2009 the band released the album Am Rande der Welt , for which the Californian artist Travis Smith (known for his work for bands such as Opeth , Amorphis , Katatonia and many others) could be won for the artwork. In the past, Nachtgeschrei was featured on a series of samplers as well as on the DVD for the fire dance festival 2008 (among others with Subway to Sally ). On November 26, 2010 the album Ardeo was released.

In 2011 Nachtgeschrei could be seen live at various concerts and festivals (such as the Hörnerfest ) and as support for Subway to Sally . Since it was founded, the band has also played at medieval festivals such as the Miroque Festival or at festivals such as the Wave-Gotik-Treffen or the Rockharz Open Air . In April 2012, singer Holger Franz left the band for family reasons. The band found a replacement with Martin LeMar (known from the band Mekong Delta ). In May 2012 the band released a digital best-of in May 2012.

At the beginning of 2015, Joachim Penc emigrated to New Zealand. He was replaced by Lauren Weser, who had her first concert appearance in Munich on April 18, 2015. After a music video consisting of live impressions with Niobium had only been released in 2009 , a video for the song Monster was released on July 23, 2015 . The album release of Staub und Schatten followed on August 7th via the new label Oblivion / SPV . The album Tiefenrausch was released on March 3, 2017 . On June 2, 2017, the band announced that they wanted to break up and gave the last farewell concerts in spring 2018.

style

The band classifies itself between folk metal and medieval rock, whereby no traditional texts or melodies are rearranged, but partly narrative, partly contemporary and timeless elements and themes in the texts are processed into self-composed music. Important musical elements in the music of Nachtgeschrei are metal and rock music as well as folkloric medieval instrumentation. The group appears exclusively as a rock band - there are no appearances with an acoustic program at medieval markets or similar events.
