By resolution of the 47th session of the World Meteorological Organization , the headquarters of the Meteorological Service in Nadi became one of six Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers (RSMC) for the worldwide monitoring of tropical activity. The area of responsibility of the RSMC Nadi is the Pacific Ocean south of the equator up to the 25th degree of latitude within the 160th degree east and 120th degree west. The office issues two reports daily of tropical disturbance in the area at 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. UTC . If necessary, warnings about the high seas are issued four times a day (01:15, 07:15, 13:15 and 19:15 UTC). Notes on tropical storms are also created every six hours and include the current position of tropical cyclones as well as predictions about the expected train path. The RSMC is supported in this task by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu .
