Naima Mora (born March 1, 1984 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American model and winner of the fourth season of America's Next Top Model .

Private life

Naima Mora was born on March 1, 1984 in Detroit. She is the daughter of Francisco Mora Catlett, a Mexican jazz drummer . He's half Mexican, half African American . Her mother is also half African American and half Irish . It got its name from John Coltrane's song "Naima". Naima has five sisters, including her identical twin sister , Nia.

Her grandparents are the painter Francisco Mora and the sculptor Elizabeth Catlett . Naima is believed to be the inspiration for her grandmother's black marble bust from 2001.

"That black marble head, Naima: we have twin granddaughters who came to stay with us one summer, they were studying Spanish. I kept looking at one of them, who has a very dynamic personality. Naima Mora grew up in northwest Detroit and attended the Bates Academy. Her high school graduation she took off at Cass Technical High School of 2002. She took ballet classes and performed on the American Ballet Theater's summer program in Detroit. She also worked as a waitress in cafes .

Mora moved to New York City and joined the Dance Theater of Harlem. On the advice of a model scout who saw her performing, she applied to America's Next Top Model . Mora is a vegetarian .

Career

Mora was considered an introvert and little conspicuous during the show. The jury around Tyra Banks favored other participants and gave her little chance of overall victory. Despite this fact, Mora made it to the finale of the fourth season and was able to convince with her performance on the catwalk . Her victory gave her a series of photos in Elle as well as a contract with Ford Models and a contract worth 100,000 US dollars with CoverGirl cosmetics.

In 2005, she hosted the Emmy Awards and was on the jury for Miss Teen USA's election with a third season contender for America's Next Top Model, Ann Markley . She was featured in some print media such as CoverGirl, ELLE Magazine, US Weekly Magazine and IN Touch.
