The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI; to German  Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry ), the Industry and Commerce in Namibia . It is headquartered in the state capital Windhoek . In March 2013 the chamber had around 2500 members. The chairman of the supervisory board is Sven Thieme (as of August 2014), the managing director is Charity Mwiya (as of April 2020).

history

The Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was founded in 1990 in Windhoek as the Namibia National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NNCCI) . In 1998 the chamber was renamed and legally transferred to an independent, private-sector institution. In the course of this realignment, the concept of regional chambers was implemented.

Tasks and structure

NCCI is a non-profit organization whose task is the representation of Namibian commercial enterprises from all economic sectors. It was established on the basis of the Companies Act, Act No. Established 32 of 1973 as a government agency. The NCCI's other areas of responsibility include:

  • Legal contact
  • Organization and conducting of conferences and trade fairs
  • Issues of trade
  • Information gathering and provision
  • further education

The highest body of the Namibian Chamber is the General Assembly, which meets twice a year. The Board of Directors is the highest supervisory body. It has 14 members. The chairman is the president, currently John Endjala . Another body of the chamber is the representation of the regional chambers.

In day-to-day business, the NCCI is managed by the secretariat. This is headed by the Chief Executive Officer , currently Tarah Shaanika .

Regional chambers

The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry is represented at regional and municipal level by regional chambers. These mainly deal with local problems. Regional chambers are (as of April 2011) in Arandis , Gobabis , Katima Mulilo , Keetmanshoop , Lüderitz , Omaruru , Ongwediva , Oranjemund , Otjiwarongo , Rehoboth , Rosh Pinah , Rundu , Swakopmund , Tsumeb , Walvis Bay and Windhoek.

The Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has no system of compulsory membership . All Namibian companies can become members. A distinction is made between micro, small and medium-sized companies and large companies . There are also special memberships for diplomats and associated institutions.

Membership can be concluded on a national level or with a regional chamber.
