Nanjiao ( 南 郊区 , Nánjiāo Qū , southern suburb ) was a Chinese municipality in the administrative area of the prefecture -level city of Datong in the north of Shanxi Province . It had an area of 929 km² and at the end of 2012 had about 300,000 inhabitants. The municipality was dissolved in 2018. The new districts of Yungang and Pingcheng were created from the Nanjiao area and parts of the Chengqu and Kuang districts , which were dissolved at the same time .
The 2000 population census showed a total population of 422,517 people in 120,181 households, of which 223,583 men and 198,934 women.
Administrative structure
At the community level, the municipality was made up of three large municipalities and seven municipalities at the end of 2017 . These goods:

Attractions
The Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are located in the larger municipality of Yungang .
