Altliebel , in Upper Sorbian Stary Lubolń , is a district in the far west of the municipality of Rietschen in the Saxon district of Görlitz . It belongs to the official Sorbian settlement area in Saxony.
history
The municipality of Altliebel, consisting of the villages of Altliebel, Nappatsch ( Napadź ) and Neuliebel, was merged with the municipality of Hammerstadt and the municipality of Viereichen to form Viereichen on January 1, 1973 . The new municipality of Viereichen, in turn, merged on March 15, 1992 with the municipalities of Daubitz , Rietschen and Teicha to form the municipality of Rietschen.
The first mentions of the localities of Altliebels go back to 1590 (Neuliebel) and 1617 (Nappatsch). There were manors in Altliebel from 1635, in Nappatsch from 1644 and in Neuliebel from 1663. Agriculture, forestry and fishing were the main livelihoods of the predominantly Sorbian population. According to statistics from Arnošt Muka , Altliebel had a total of 138 inhabitants in 1885, including 126 Sorbs (91%) and twelve Germans.
This was evangelical-Lutheran and belonged to the Daubitz parish until Altliebel was assigned to the Reichwalde parish in 1857 . Neuliebel remained in the Daubitz parish until 1956 and has been part of the Rietschen parish since then.
With the declaration of the municipality of Viereichen as a brown coal reserve , Altliebel was also severely affected. After the fall of the Wall, civil protests and negotiations were able to ensure that part of the Viereichen community was not devastated for the Reichwalde opencast mine , but the village of Altliebel itself had to be abandoned. Funding programs have been called up for the other places in order to reduce the consequences of the longstanding protected area status. Nappatsch was preserved and was renamed Altliebel.
