Nathan Hale
Nathan Hale (born June 6, 1755 in Coventry , Colony of Connecticut , † September 22, 1776 in New York ) was an American officer , teacher and one of the historical heroes of the United States.
Life
Hale graduated from Yale in 1773 and then taught in East Haddam , eventually in New London , Connecticut . Nathan did not join the army until July 6, 1776 and was quickly promoted to the rank of captain . Five of his brothers participated on the American side in the battles against England in Lexington and Concord . On September 22, 1776, Nathan Hale was hanged by the British on charges of being a spy . On the way to the gallows , Hale uttered his famous last words : "I only have to regret that I only have one life that I can give my country."
In addition to the Hale Statue outside the Tribune Tower in Chicago to find another before the CIA - headquarters in Langley . In addition, a nuclear submarine , the USS Nathan Hale , was named after Hale.
