Nathan Myhrvold
Nathan Myhrvold (born August 3, 1959 in Seattle ) is a former Chief Technical Officer of Microsoft and co-founder of Intellectual Ventures .
Life
Myhrvold is a son of the teacher Nathalie Myhrvold and grew up with his brother Cameron in modest circumstances and without a father. He was still able to attend private schools in Los Angeles and received a scholarship to the Mirman School, an institution for the gifted. He received his diploma in mathematics at 19 and graduated from Princeton University with a PhD in mathematical and theoretical physics at 23 . He then spent a year at Cambridge as a post-doctoral student with Stephen Hawking . In Oakland , California , he founded his own software company, Dynamical Systems , which was bought by Microsoft in 1986. He stayed with Microsoft until 1999, and in 1991 Myhrvold founded its research subsidiary Microsoft Research in Redmond .

Myhrvold's research and projects have been published in various specialist journals and magazines ( Harvard Business Review , The Wall Street Journal , Fortune , Time and National Geographic Traveler ). In 2010, the US foreign policy journal Foreign Policy included him in its list of the world's 100 most important thought leaders. The American Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the United States in 2011.
Myhrvold is a hobby cook, author and photographer. He gained culinary experience as Thierry Rautureau 's apprentice at Rover’s , one of Seattle’s leading restaurants . He also attended the École de Cuisine la Varenne cooking school in France. In 2011, Myhrvold published the six-volume cookbook Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking together with Chris Young and Maxime Bilet . Because of its scientific approach, the compendium sees itself as a redefinition of the modern way of cooking and contains elements of experimental cuisine - Myhrvold distances himself in the book from the misleading term “molecular cuisine”. Examples are the use of a homogenizer , a centrifuge and vacuum cooking . Although Myhrvold claims that his work can also be put into practice by hobby chefs without a laboratory , he estimates around 30 hours to prepare the “perfect cheeseburger”.
