description
The ship type was designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions. The interior design comes from Partnership Design in Hamburg .
The ships are powered by diesel-electric technology . They are equipped with two electrically driven ABB - azimuth thruster fitted. Four diesel generators are available for power generation, which are driven by two General Electric diesel engines of the type GE 8L250MDC and two General Electric diesel engines of the type 12V250MDC.
The ships are equipped with an Ulstein X-Bow , which is intended to improve sea behavior, especially in heavy seas, and to contribute to lower fuel consumption. The ships of the type can also be built with a conventional bow . The ships are equipped with fin stabilizers , which also work when the ship is not in motion. The stabilizers enable a ship that is as calm as possible for observing marine mammals or birds, as well as when transferring to or from dinghies at sea. The hull of the ships specially designed for use in the polar regions is ice-reinforced ( ice class PC5, category A). The range of the ships is around 15,000 nautical miles (at a speed of 12 knots ).
The ships have six passenger decks. Among other things, they are equipped with restaurants, a fitness room, sauna and viewing decks for observing nature. You carry Zodiac - rigid inflatable boats and kayaks , which z. B. can be used for shore excursions and tours away from the ships.
There is space for 260 people on board. The passenger capacity is 126 people, which can be accommodated in 69 outside cabins, 57 double and twelve single cabins. The passenger cabins are distributed over four decks. The crew strength is given as 112 people, so that there is space for another 22 people, including, for example, expedition leaders and lecturers.
