The 2000/01 season was the fifth edition of the English national ice hockey league , which from this season bears the name English National League . After it was led in the two previous seasons as Division 1 of the English League , the independence of the league was now emphasized. After the Ice Hockey Superleague , the British National League and the English Premier Ice Hockey League , it is now formally the 4th league of British ice hockey.

Mode and participants

The teams played in a north and a south group. In a single round everyone played against everyone. The first four of the groups then played two representatives for the final round in play-off groups. There, the overall winner was determined in play-offs with two legs.

North group

The number of participants decreased due to the departure of the Nottingham Lions II and the move of the Flintshire Freezers to the South Conference. But the Grimsby Buffalos returned.
