The Midongy du Sud National Park , also called Midongy-Befotaka , is a national park in Madagascar .
geography
It is located in the Atsimo-Atsinanana region , approx. 42 km from Befotaka and 90 km from Vangaindrano . It extends to an altitude between 689 and 1679 m. Its highest peak is the Mont Papango mountain .
fauna
Many endemic species of reptiles, birds and lemurs live in the national park . a .:
- the leaf- tailed gecko Arongo ( Uroplatus fimbriatus ).
- the predator Fossa , also known as the ferret cat.
- the chameleon ( Furcifer verrucosus ).
- the spur cuckoo Toloho or Centropus toulou , an endemic species of bird.
- the rare collar lemur ( Eulemur collaris ).
- Sifakas ( Propithecus sp.)
- the Schuppenerdracke ( Geobiastes squamigera ).
- the endemic striped throat thrush ( Neomixis striatigula ).

The national park protects 14 threatened species on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN ).
The forest of Midongy du Sud consists largely of rosewood and ebony species . However, 48 ferns and medicinal plants also grow here , u. a. Mystroxylon aethiopicum of the family Celastracaeae , Medinilla , and the Ranavao or Dilobeia thouars .
In addition, the native orchids Aeranthes caudata and Bulbophyllum vestitum, which are protected in the CITES II appendix, can also be found here .
